Canary

The Canary is a domesticated species of the finch family, they are often referred to as songbirds due to their calls.

For a pet canary

  • Cage: A spacious cage with horizontal bars is best, as canaries are good at climbing.
  • Environment: Place the cage in a well-lit, draft-free area between 65-80°F. Provide a cage cover for night to ensure a light/dark cycle.
  • Food and water: Offer a balanced diet of seeds and pellets, supplemented with vegetables. Fruits should be limited, and fresh water must always be available.
  • Enrichment: Include natural wooden perches at different heights, a bird bath, and a variety of toys.
  • Health: Provide preventative care for parasites and be attentive to changes in droppings or signs of illness like lethargy or fluffed feathers, consulting a vet if needed.
