The Eastern Sedge-frog, sometimes called the Dwarf Tree Frog

The eastern dwarf treefrog is one of the smallest green treefrogs, at just 3.2cm, its back is green to fawn, sometimes scattered with dark spots. A dark bronze line runs from the nostril to eye. The groin and hidden part of the thigh are bright orange.

Diet:    Appropriate insects include

  • crickets
  • cockroaches
  • earthworms
  • silkworms
  • slugs
  •  moths
  •  mealworms, and wax worms.

Care must be taken with mealworms   Wax worm portions should be limited, as these insects are very high in fat, and overfeeding can result in significant health issues. All insects must be fortified with calcium through gut-loading or dusting before being offered as food. This practice helps prevent nutritional diseases like metabolic bone disease, which arises from diets chronically deficient in calcium, a condition prevalent among captive frogs.

Tree frogs, being arboreal animals, require enclosures with varied levels, which can be created using artificial plants, bamboo, tree branches, or PVC pipes. The enclosure walls should ideally be made of glass or Perspex, and if feasible, the roof should consist of a safe, breathable mesh to allow for ventilation while avoiding materials that could rust or harm the frogs.
